An Oak Tree in Winter

Here is a simple shot of an Oak tree from my wife's backyard in Needville, Texas. The picture was more dramatic in B&W than in color. It was modified in Adobe Photoshop and sharpened.

Hollow Trail

Hey Guys,

We took these pictures at Brazos Bend State Park in Texas. This park features many oak trees with Spanish moss hanging down. We shot these pictures in monochrome to capture the erie feeling of the trails that lead to no where. Hope you enjoy.

Okay, not every shot was made on safari...

Hey guys,

So the title says it all...these were all taken at city zoos. It is often difficult to obtain a good shot at the zoo due to bars and cages. These first two were taken at the San Diego Zoo and the last two were from the Oklahoma City Zoo. Both Zoos have large facilities for the creatures to be in with out the need for bars and cages. I don't think San Diego Zoo life is too bad for this Polar Bear and Mountain Lions...
The Ape/Monkeys from the Oklahoma City Zoo were interesting to say the least with these candid captures. Hope you enjoy.

Blue Humpback Whales from Alaska

Hey gang,

Here are a few shots from Southwest Alaskan Whale migration from Hawaii. These are humpback whales and they only come up for a short amount of time to grab some air. After surfacing, they go into a terminal dive making progress to thier destination. After 10 minutes or so, they surface and repeat this process. On occasion, they preform a breach were the whale jumps out of the water to stretch itself out and mix things up a little. These are wonderful creatures whose size masks thier gentleness. A great example for us all to live our life in like manner.
I hope you enjoy.

Coconut Crab (Must See)

I figured most people could appreaciate these unique creatures. Our friends in Australia sent us a picture of a Coconut Crab. This is pretty interesting....Coconut Crab (Birgus latro) is the largest terrestrial arthropod in the world. It is known for its ability to crack coconuts with its strong pincers in order to eat the contents. It is sometimes called the robber crab because some coconut crabs are rumored to steal shiny items such as pots and silverware from houses and tents. The second photo gives you a good idea of how large these crabs are - a coconut crab is seeking food from a black trashcan.

The coconut crab is a large edible land crab related to the hermit crab, and are found in the tropical Indian and Pacific Oceans . They eat coconuts for a living! How would you like to be on an island and come across a crab that is more than 3 feet from head to tail and weighs up to 40 pounds, with a pair of large pincers strong enough to open coconuts! They can climb trees too, but they only eat coconuts that have already fallen to the ground. Coconut crab meat has been considered a local delicacy.

South Dakota Wildlife

There is a lot more to South Dakota than most people think. Beyond Mt. Rushmore, there is so much wildlife to see and shoot (with a camera :) ). The Dall Sheep and Mountian Goat were two creatures that we came into contact while tooling around South Dakota on a vacation. Both of these creatures let us get pretty close without getting them too scared. These were shot right outside of Rapid City.

New Mexico Hummingbirds

Hey gang,

Here are a few choice captures of hummingbirds in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The first shot had the sun behind the our little friend and I used some fill flash to expose him properly. The next two are simple shots of them resting which is hard to get as most of you know.

Enjoy.

High Key Photography

Hey gang,

Sorry it's been a while but here are some pictures from a recent project that we did for an airline stewardess for a job interview for Dubai Airlines. The technique we used is a modified high key but we were able to get the same results by blowing out the background.

Alaskan Vista

Hey gang,

This shot was taken while in Alaska in the small town of Haines. We were on a nature hike and were walking through the woods and just saw a scene that was eye catching. Nothing too complex but the depth of the shot keeps the eye moving.
Thanks

When life gives you lemons...

Hey gang,

Here are a few commercial shots we did in Las Vegas. We loved the color of the lemons as they seemed so bright and brilliant that it remains one of our favoriate pictures. Along with the lemons in a farmers market tray, we also shot the lemonade stand for a display. Hope you like them!

Thanks

Recent Wedding Shots

Hey Gang,

We wanted to share a few shots of a recent wedding we did in Tuscon, Arizona. These shots were taken in Sabino Canyon for the bride and groom. Wedding photography is very challenging becasue in part, you have to run the show and keep things going. Usually, the bride and groom are spinning with activity so the photographer has to keep things moving. You can see more of our work on our website.

Enjoy!

White Sands National Monument

Hey gang,

Here are a few shots that require imagination of what I did with my perspective when I took the shot. These two were taken at White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. As the name suggests, the park is a large white gypsum sand deposit from an old lake. I got down flat on the sand and noticed because the clouds were lower in the sky it could look like a sand storm. The first picture you can see the clouds. The second shot was taken from a steeper sand dune and increased contrast and saturation was added in Photoshop to get the effect of a storm coming at you. Hope you all enjoy!

Thanks!

Here are some sample shots we did for our commercial photography services. We utilize daylight balanced lights to showcase the products. We have utilize a Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens to record these images. I am hoping to expand my photography and get more involved in commercial product shooting in the near future.

Amazing Stingray Migration!!

Hey gang,

Here are some pictures from a friend of mine in regards to the Stingray migration off the coast of Mexico. Looking like giant leaves floating in the sea, thousands of Golden Rays are seen here gathering off the coast of Mexico The spectacular scene was captured as the magnificent creatures made one of their biannual mass migrations to more agreeable waters. Gliding silently beneath the waves, they turned vast areas of blue water to gold off the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula Sandra Critelli, an amateur photographer, stumbled across the phenomenon while looking for whale sharks. She said: 'It was an unreal image, very difficult to describe. The surface of the water was covered by warm and different shades of gold and looked like a bed of autumn leaves gently moved by the wind. 'We were surrounded by them without seeing the edge of the school and we could see many under the water surface too. I feel very fortunate I was there in the right place at the right time to experience nature at its best' Measuring up to 7ft (2.1 meters) from wing-tip to wing-tip, Golden rays are also more prosaically known as cow nose rays. They have long, pointed pectoral fins that separate into two lobes in front of their high-domed heads and give them a cow-like appearance. Despite having poisonous stingers, they are known to be shy and non-threatening when in large schools. The population in the Gulf of Mexico migrates, in schools of as many as 10,000, clockwise from western Florida to the Yucatan.
Please note these are not my pictures and they are credited appropriately.

Enjoy!

Alaska Revisited

Well, after seeing some of the great work out there from other photographers, I decided to put a few more shots that we took in Alaska. The glacier is part of Glacier Bay National Park, The orange sunset is Victoria Island in British Columbia. The last picture of the lighthouse is in Skagway, Alaska. What makes this picture interesting is the fellow that mans the light house lives right behind it in a home with his wife and thier whole job is to just keep the light house running! I want that job! Right? With that scenery, I would do it for nothing!!

I hope you all enjoy!
